WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today the United States Senate approved the appointment of Sonia Sotomayor to be the next Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court by a vote of 68 to 31. After learning of the Senate’s vote, Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement:
“Judge Sotomayor’s judicial record and her testimony throughout her confirmation process made it clear that she is eminently qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. Her answers on weighty issues that affect our country showed us a fair, thoughtful, mainstream judge.
