WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today the members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus met with President Barack Obama to discuss comprehensive immigration reform. Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus and senior member of the Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement immediately following the meeting:
“I appreciate the time President Barack Obama took to meet with us today to discuss the need for comprehensive immigration reform. His past efforts and commitment to this issue are a matter of record. Today we applaud his reaffirmation, now as President, to move forward on that commitment.
We all agree that our immigration system is broken. At the same time, we all recognize that our banking and credit systems are in trouble, and that Americans are hungry to work and keep their homes. We will continue to work with President Obama to put our economy back on track and put our people back to work so that we may move forward this year to address comprehensive immigration reform.
The American people are fortunate to have a President ready and willing to tackle the big issues of the day.”
