LOS ANGELES – Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-31), the only member of Congress from Southern California who sits on the powerful Committee on Ways and Means, has secured federal funds for seven nonprofit organizations based in California’s 31st District that work with at-risk and disadvantaged youth. At least $24,500 will be issued to the following organizations specifically for youth-oriented after-school programming:
Anahuak Youth Sports Association
Exodus Urban Academy (All People’s Christian Center)
Hollywood Beautification Team
P.F. Bresee Foundation
Ramona Hall Community Center
Search to Involve Pilipino Americans
South Los Angeles Beautification Team (Coalition for Responsible Community Development)
Upon learning of the decision by the House Subcommittee on Science, State, Justice and Commerce to award funds to these deserving organizations, Rep. Becerra issued the following statement:
“With over 64,000 active gang members in the City of Los Angeles, and significant cuts to after-school program budgets over the years, my district is fortunate to count these organizations as neighbors and partners in our communities. They are vital components of the neighborhoods they serve, offering guidance, personal enrichment and fun in safe after-school environments to at-risk and disadvantaged youth. Above all, they engage our youth and lead them on a path away from gangs and towards personal growth and success. I am proud to have secured these funds, and I look forward to a continued partnership with the outstanding community based organizations in my district.”
