REP. BECERRA ON THE ANDEAN FTA NEGOTIATIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – At a press conference this morning on Capitol Hill highlighting the on-going negotiations of the Andean Free Trade Agreement, Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), the only congressional member from Southern California on the House Committee on Ways and Means, issued the following statement:

“Peruvian president Alejandro Toledo has said publicly that he would welcome the inclusion of internationally accepted core labor standards into the Andean Free Trade Agreement and I thank him for taking that important step. It is our hope that as we move forward with finalizing negotiations, all participating countries follow President Toledo’s lead to include the five International Labor Organization core standards within the four corners of the agreement. The Andean FTA can and should achieve bipartisan support.”
