Rep. Becerra Opposes Senate Judiciary Committee's Decision To Nominate Miguel Estrada

"Estrada's Lack Of Judicial Experience And Limited Record Make Him Unfit To Serve At This High Level"

WASHINGTON - Upon learning that the Senate Judiciary Committee, by a party-line vote of 10-9, nominated Miguel Estrada to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Representative Xavier Becerra (CA - 31), a member and former Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, issued the following statement:

"I was highly disappointed to learn that Senate Republicans serving on the Judiciary Committee today chose to support the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the second highest court in the land.

Though it is important that government work to make the federal bench as diverse as the public it serves, it is equally important that nominees have solid experience and demonstrated temperament to embody the very justice and fairness that they are charged to uphold.

Miguel Estrada should not be nominated to serve on the federal bench. His lack of judicial experience and limited record make him unfit to serve at such a high level."

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has publicly pronounced its opposition to Miguel Estrada's nomination to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.
