Better Jobs, Better Pay

BETTER JOBS, BETTER PAY

Democrats will raise the minimum wage, repeal tax giveaways  to corporations that move American jobs overseas, and restore fiscal discipline.

Increase the Minimum Wage

The minimum wage has not been raised for nearly a decade, yet Republicans in Congress voted every year to give themselves a pay raise. In just one month (June 22 to July 19), Democrats called seven votes on the issue; all votes failed along strict party lines (click here to see a summary of those votes). And then on Friday, July 28, Republicans brought up a “poisoned” minimum wage bill destined for failure in the Senate due to egregious tax cuts for the rich that formed the basis of the bill. Democrats will continue to prohibit the Congressional pay raise until the nation’s minimum wage is raised.
