Located entirely within the City of Los Angeles and covering approximately 40 square miles, my congressional district is comprised of unique urban neighborhoods reflective of the broadly diverse constituency I represent. While fairly compact in geographical size, my district spans ethnic communities with roots in countries thousands of miles apart on the world map.
One can visit a traditional Korean pagoda in a neighborhood park and within minutes be traveling through Historic Filipinotown on the way to El Parque de Mexico and stand next to bronze statues of President Abraham Lincoln alongside Fr. Miguel Hidalgo y Castilla. Leave El Parque and drive down Central Avenue to be taken back in time to the vibrant 1930s jazz and intellectual scene where legends Duke Ellington and W.E.B. Du Bois frequently visited.
The Multicultural 31st district encompasses the diverse neighborhoods of Echo Park, Eagle Rock, Glassell Park, Atwater Village, Westlake, Hollywood, Silver Lake, Highland Park, Garvanza, Mt. Washington, Pico Union, Byzantine-Latino Quarter, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, El Sereno, Koreatown, and Historic Filipinotown.
